I've been thinking somewhat similar things lately as well. My fiance and I were talking about that last weekend. We bought our first condo together in December and figure about 5 - 8 years in it. I'll be nearly 40 on the longer end of that time frame. I realized that when we're done with that, my hope is that we're looking to move from Illinois and get to something completely new in our lives, and not just find a bigger house and continue the same life we have.

We have a dream of opening a bed and breakfast somewhere someday. Something more contemporary and modern that would attract a younger crowd and people typically scared away from all the wicker and Victorian crap that usually comes with them. I want to have a place on a small lake where you can use kayaks, canoes, borrow bikes, go walking in the woods, go fishing, and in the winter go cross-country skiing. Maybe more of a dinner focus than breakfast - maybe have some local chefs featured once a month that people would make the reason for coming by. Big communal fire pit outside, some nice chairs and a dog that's always hanging around. Fresh air and the only care in the world to be happy and make guests happy. When I was out in Breckenridge, CO a few weeks ago, it really hit me that that area could be an incredible place to do something like this someday. I think about it constantly and I really hope this becomes a reality someday.
