I did it on my own, and I suck with these kind of things.
Basically I did a search on youtube, and found a video that explained what to do step by step, I followed the instructions in real time and it was done, next thing I knew I had internet on my laptop through my phone.I also upgraded to iOS 4, and my phone was so slow, that the cosmetic upgrades were not worth it for me, I followed the same steps and went back to iOS3, and my phone runs really smooth now.
I would suggest anyone on 3G/ 3Gs to do the same, I wish I saved the link where it showed you how to downgrade.
