thx for helpful feedback... i think i figured out what works for my machine... no MP...can't get it to work yet, but key thing that worked for me was the following... update to latest ae cs5 (10.0.1.19), up the RAM reserve for other apps as much as possible (strange but works), and matching the disk cache to the size of RAM available to AE (or just under, not over). anyone else have tips, i'd appreciate it... all a big experiment at this point.
