Probably stating the obvious but I don't think the US will be leading the overthrow of Ghaddafi mainly because it doesn't want to alienate Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan, which have been dealing with their own cries for revolution. I think there's some deals being made that would allow for NATO to interveen, but we will have to support the squashing of protests towards our major Arab allies in the region.
Ghaddafi is sitting on the lightest, sweetest oil available. The global economy will not allow him to stay in power much longer.
