Just got off skype with my friend in Tokyo. He teaches school about 13 miles away from where he lives - typically a 45 minute express train ride. Took him 16 hours to walk home on foot. Their house north of Tokyo was a mess. I saw the drapes swaying as they went through aftershocks. That massive refinery explosion in Chiba - he saw that happen and said the explosion made your heart stop even from across the harbor. He's been through some small earthquakes over there but said he could barely describe the feeling of one like this. Said it was impossible to stand up; cars looked like they were dancing.
He wanted to rest at a restaurant on the way home, but everything was closed because of gas leaks. The worst thing is that they are expecting another one just as bad or WORSE in the coming days, which will be devastating.
- Wow.. I can't even imagine being witness to something like that..
I hope he is somewhat safe now.Ramanisky2 - Yeah, he is. He said their house was a wreck from stuff getting knocked over.mg33
