A friend used 99design's for his business two years ago. He called to ask if I wanted to help out, but I had to go through the site.
Knocked out a logo real quick, made some edit's, laughed at everyone else's submission's and took home my whopping $300...ehh, beer money.
It seemed like such a great concept(the site), at the time, when I just started my career. Now, after a year and a half at an agency, even though im full-time, I see how you freelancers must shun this sort of thing.
p.s - He is apart of a start-up with a few of his Brown classmates, they were just out of school (as I was) and poor at the time.
