i think it does, too - it's not really a field where "different" or "flashy" is something that a client would want. so that's why it's all judged to the same standard.
having said that, there's a street photographer named algimantas kezys - a fellow chicagoan! - who took "interesting" pictures of architecture back in the day. i think he could do so because he wasn't doing it for architectural clients, just himself. unfortunately he doesn't have a website with his work on it.
