i wonder if the art director considered the father not throwing her out of the window, and just getting bitten by her, but not hurting her.
That might have been more emotive, but then the falling scene is lost.
Maybe it would be better if he jumped out the window after pulling the child to his front, into a hug position, child biting his neck, falling and killing himself and her together, but again not hurting her. That way keeping the falling scene.
Then the wife is left out.

- I don't know. I think it shows the father's instinctual reaction to survive, even if it's (was) his kid.ETM
