I'll have to check out a lot of these movies and books. For Lakota culture and spirituality I highly recommend:
    Black Elk Speaks
    Lame Deer: Seeker of Visions
Crow Dog: Four Generations of Sioux Medicine Men
Black Elk Speaks is based in the late 1800s, while the latter two are around the 1970s and deal with modern day struggles part but also in go deep into rituals like the ghost dance and peyote ceremonies.

Crow Dog and Lakota Woman go more deeply into the Wounded Knee incident in 1973 also.
