At the very least they'd be wise to stay anonymous.
No moderator can't please all. And sooner or later someone who takes his/her opinion (and online presence in general) too seriously will get offended and in a misguided attempt of perceiving justice/revenge/take-your-pick do something stupid.
Paying someone to moderate who isn't that involved in this site, its users, or even design may be a good idea. But then again...who'd pay for a babysitter for us.
