The whole "finger up to the establishment and mugs that pay stupid money for art" thing was similar to what the KLF did by burning £1,000,000 and offering an alternative art prize to the Turner Prize and threatening to burn that money on tv during the ad breaks of the Turner Prize being shown live on TV if the winner didn't come to collect the money.
