Unfortunately the AD and CD title has become diluted these days as a result of the dotcom craze when those titles were handed out left, right and centre.
That said the best AD‘s I have worked and have the most respect for are the ones that have done my job and still can.
If you are having problems just just respomd with technical or design jargon, when they ask you to do something stupid.
