    There are reasons, and they have to do with the "sweet spot" where music has a clearly defined stage. Monitors are awesome—I have a pair both in my living room and at my computer—but they have a very, very narrow spot where the full frequency and balanced stage can be achieved. Home speakers on the other hand are designed to create a wider soundstage and a larger sweet spot. Unfortunately they also color the sound a little.
