A compressed font is just a very condensed version. Sometimes called ultra condensed. For example, Univers comes in several different widths, including condensed and ultra condensed (i.e. compressed).
Sometimes it depends on the particular typeface. But there is usually only a compressed version if there is also a condensed version with which the narrower fonts can be compared.
Anyway, here's an example of condensed and compressed (respectively).
