  Slowly deleting items from the code to track down the culprit.
  Seems to be the CSS file. When I delete the link it runs much quicker (normal). Just working through the css now to see what it is because it's happening on most the sites I've done.

  I have solved the problem on one site by deleting a .png as a background image in one of the css classes! WTF?
