    In regards to training for Endurance Marathons, I'd say to be sure you tackle 1-2 street Marathons prior to attempting an endurance marathon in the mountains. Then move into cross country training and get used to mountain running. It's 1000x different than street running. Your strides will be shorter, and less low to the ground drag. And the knee ligament stress is much more aggressive.

    I'd never tackle terrain i was not familiar with, so checking out the trail you will be running before hand is a must.
