"HFCS is banned in UK"
I was surprised when I read this, as we're rarely all that far from the States in terms of food legislation (obvious Euro intervention aside) and, indeed, I don't think I can find mention of this claim anywhere other than in a couple of Green Food Blogs (rarely, sadly, a source of legitimate claims) or Wikipedia (samesame).
You can't buy it on the shelves here, but I don't think it's actually 'banned'. Probably more a lack of popularity amongst consumers when competing against vast numbers of existing industrial food products from our long history of sweet making.
Not defending the shit, mind - I hate the drive of mass food producers to the bottom. my particular bugbear is the swapping of large percentages of natural sugar for artifical sweeteners, then slapping the obligatory "Now contains less sugar!" banner over the front, like it's a benefit for me the consumer, rather then their bottom line.
- 'natural sugar' = 'naturally-derived sugars', sorry.detritus
