im australian but based in london. im not sure what the visa process is as ive obviously never needed one. try here http://www.immi.gov.au/ and any other links but make sure they end in .gov.au otherwise it could be a scam website.

you will find melbourne (and less so sydney) has a large italian community so you shouldnt feel too homesick... oh and the coffee is just as good as italy's, and light years ahead of london's. :)

winter in sydney is almost the same temp as summer in london, summer in sydney is really hot though (can reach 40c some days). melbourne is more mild but colder in winter.

    to look at apartments: domain.com.au,

jobs: seek.com.au plus the usual agencies (a lot of the same big ones you will find in london too - Aquent, Bespoke etc) you shouldnt have problems, there was no real recession in australia and work seems quite busy even in december, i find pay is better then london too. aussie dollar is $1.6 for £1 now and in 2007 it was $2.8 so its doing really well.

tax info: http://www.ato.gov.au/ you will find you pay slightly less tax and can claim things like laptops/magazines/books if they are related to your job - getting a cheque from the taxman for $3000 is always nice.

hope this is helpful for you
