from a technical and usability perspective, you can use css to position text outside of a container and have a background image for desktop clients, and just show the html text and no image for mobile clients. this technique will also allow screen readers and search engines to "see" the text while giving the appearance the client wants. just an fyi in case you didn't know, may influence the decision.
