    x264 is using h.264. it's the same thing minus the gamma shift. sometimes the results can be a little dark, like it's overcompensating so then you have to go and re-encode while brightening it up. if the gamma shift is a problem using h.264 you can adjust the gamma coming out of compressor... usually works perfectly.
