Don't bother with a present.
Go to a pub. When she offers to buy you a drink go to the bar. Get her the wrong drink (bacardi or was it whisky & coke) then return to the table and keep the change. Pretty smooth. I had a 3 year relationship on the basis of that performance so it works.
PS, tell her that the top she's wearing looks like a referee's shirt from QPR vs Norich City circa 1975. I found that works too.
