What's sad is that this could have been a preventable death. The ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) doesn't provide health insurance to their athletes in a sport that is without question one of the most dangerous and physically demanding sports out there. Plus Billabong, his main sponsor, should have a physician or support staff traveling with their top pros at every location when on tour. I really hope this spurs some changes on how they care for the health of the athletes.
