those 1/4" inputs for the bass drum and hi hat are for foot pedals like the ones i posted. I've never used the alesis control pad but it seems like pretty much anything that is a momentary switch will work for it. I think Miguex said that even a sustain pedal will work. the expensive stuff is probably made to feel more like a real kick pedal. the ones i posted above are $7.69. definitely will not play like a real pedal though.
