"ABC's Jonathan Karl reports: A high-level GOP source tells me that party leaders have essentially given up on Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller and are now banking on a victory by write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski as the best bet for Republicans to keep the Alaska Senate seat. "
Wow - so out of the candidates most associated with the "Tea Party" - Joe Miller, Christine O'Donnell, Rand Paul, Linda McMahon, and Sharon Angle - only one (Paul) is favored to win at this point. Maybe Angle or Miller will squeak it out.
In four of those cases (O'Donnell, Angle, Miller and McMahon) the Republicans (the voters, not the leadership) more or less killed their chances by nominating a candidate that was too extreme.
It looks like this election will be a win for the Republicans but a failure for libertarian/Tea Party candidates. Of course, the Tea Party served its purpose - by giving the GOP a marketing gimmick (freeedaam!) to persuade people they were a different party from the one run by George Bush.
