Some of the themes on themeforest have incredible extra functionality. it's worth buy a few of the more complex ones to see what can be done. Our company spent 4 years building our own CMS, it's only a fraction of what can be done with wordpress.
It's frame work isn't the best though, but as long as you're not a code process purest, it doesn't matter.
