I think allot more has gone on with Rooney behind the scenes than the media has gotten wind of. Ferguson alluded to this in his press conference saying that United... sorry Manchester United, had helped him allot in his private life and also with his financial management.
Will be very interested to see where he moves. He wont have allot of options i don't think, as there just aren't that many teams who will be able to compete for his wages. If Real Madrid don't come in for him i think he will have to move to City or Chelsea.
