Draper is a scumbag. He's up to something. He's not in love. He's full of shit. It seemed he was reacting to his x-wife firing their kids' life long Nanny, and them moving, which would make him have to be more responsible in the long run. So, the opportunist that he is, latched on to the first comfortable person that seemed to be good with his kids, seemed enamored with him, and can be a good little wife. And he also just happened to have that ring with him, it made him look like he was really thinking about this for a while, when in actuality it's all just an impulse.
