I use ezpzhosting.co.uk, which actually hosts here (a lot of UK hosts apparently just buy rackspace in the US), making ping times quite quick this side of the pond. They're relatively cheap and they offer the fullest back end management I've seen on a host (that doesn't mean much, eh - I've only seen a handful. It was better than MT's, put it that way).
Can't say much about support - haven't needed it so far. Email alerts about downtime have been accurate.
They do have a shit name and less than insipiring branding though, if that kind of thing is important to you...
