tell the client that you'll happily print out their work and competitors work, mount onto kappa board and take the designs to the streets asking people their opinions and which one they think looks better.
Hopefully the majority will prefer yours thus proving to the client yours is better and his doubts are just personal preference.make sure you also charge them for this research ;)
