FIY, the other quicker method for taking care of most of thoes is to go to a different dirctory than the offending item (i.e. any where but your desktop if it's on our DT) and crate a new folder, rename the folder the EXACT (extention and everything) same as the bad file, drag the new folder to the same directory and OS X will ask you if you want to overwrite the old file, say yes and pooof... all done... well, deleat the folder too i guess... but it works 90% of the time with out having to go to the terminal or DL an app for it
