A couple years ago I was visiting my dad, and I was taking a good long look at a Robert Bateman print he had on the wall. I was trying to figure out why Bateman's art was so popular among people like my dad. His mother-in-law noticed me looking at it and proclaimed definitively, "Robert Bateman is the best artist in Canada."
"Oh, really?" I responded, doing my best to not sound like a snob.
She adamantly defended her position with, "WELL, IF HE'S NOT, HE SHOULD BE."
