Just one suggestion: I would try and estimate the design time and multiple that by your hourly rate (if your a recent grad, double your time as everything takes twice as long as you think). Then calculate the number of illustrations needed and work out a fee per illustration (must be something in your AIGA handbook). Add everything up as a starting point to quote from. Without more details things like character design and ownership of characters, exact run size, your client's budget (try to figure this out first by asking if they have a number in mind), distribution, and if long term royalties might be in play an exact number is difficult to nail down.
