I went to full sail university for animation in the late 90s. One of our Alias instructors used to work at Pixar, and he told me they sometimes used mario paint as part of the interview process, right on the spot with no warning.
They would sit you down with it for a half hour or an hour and see what you can come up with. He showed us some of the applicant mario paint projects, amazing what some people can do with such basic tools.
