"can't be worse than the shit I have now...."

Maybe true, but I had Charter Cable and I was happy, until I had to move. I have a pretty critical eye for video and I can see compression blocks pretty easily and they bother me. I did some research and it comes down to this:

1- Cable companies can push so much bandwidth through the pipes, so in order to offer more channels in HD they compress them.

2- Cable companies have diffrent compression algorythems, so when I used to be with Charter, their compression looked more like film grain and less like block artifacts (think youtube compression).

3- I had to move, so I got Time Warner and It was also shit.

4- Satellite companies just launch more satellites to offer more channels, like DirectTv just did early this year. You can get 1080P on demand video though it, and 1080i on their HD channels.

I am not a sales guy for Direct (cant speak for Dish since I never had them). Just what I have learned by dealing with this stuff....
