i just set up a network with my girlfriend's PC, piece of cake. plug and play. just like others mentioned, setup a new user and if they are on a PC, just click the allow windows sharing box. they'll see your computer, you give them a username and pass then they can only access what's in their folders.
you do have to play with the permissions a bit just "get info" on the folders you want them to acces and allow them to Read and Write.
