references on work history?

    yes. if you do not have a relationship with the people who are interviewing you (in which case they will do their own detective work and form their opinions that way) they are going to want to call some people.

    I would never hire someone without calling their references if they weren't referred by a very very very trusted source, and even then I'll have to do a little cross referencing of some sort.

    In short, it's totally weird if they ask you to and you don't -- especially if you actually want the job.
