my number one tip that people are shockingly unaware of is to run under a limited user account and create an admin account only for admin tasks, and disable the default admin account if it's been enabled. if your user account doesn't have privileges to do anything, you will severely limit any potential attack vectors. It can be a pain at times, but I've never been compromised in all of my years on windows.
