It wasn't an attempt at criticism at all..
I just can't stand anymore this ridiculous hype about HTML5 and Flash hatred from people like you and others, where you touch yourself over things we we've been doing 5-10 years ago.
It's GREAT that capabilities of HTML are increasing and that we will be able to do more things with no plugins. The fact that we will have finally an open source video format thanks to Google is also awesome.
It's all great.. but we are still not there and probably won't be in a foreseeable future. Will it evolve? Will we get libraries, frameworks and IDEs for this stuff? Absolutely.. hell Adobe will probably shift Flash player strategy over the long run into using Flash IDE and Flash Builder to build apps in AS3 and export to HTML5/Canvas/WebGL.
But just like with HTML5 video, will HTML5 video replace Flash video? No freakin' way! There's more to video online than prev/play/pause/next buttons. There's DRM protection, streaming, live streaming, variable bitrates etc etc. Not to go into Flash Media Server capabilities and so forth.
Just like with videos, HTML5 willl not replace Flash in quite a while. It's great that regular folks or your mom and pop can post video to web thanks to Google's WebM but that's all simple/basic level.
What I can't stand is this "oh look at this it's better than flash" attempts which are downright silly. And then people start wow-ing and saying how awesome it is when it's really nothing to get panties in a bunch over.
Should a person start learning jS and HTML5. Absolutely. Just like we all had to learn HTML when we started coding in order to move up to backend or Flash development. The same goes for HTML5.
We need to evolved and HTML5 is definitely a long needed evolution over HTML4.
