i dunno about that. i'm fairly optimistic that there will be loads of small sites/download programs that basically act like record labels who pick up artists they like, sell their mp3s and split it equally. artists would rather go with these sites because they get half the money instead of a shitty 11cents. all the bigger download programs will specialise in mass-marketted shitpop while all the other more independent sites will be selling quality stuff and loads of it.
i totally believe that the music industry will always be controlled by huge corporations, this we won't get away from as long as we live in a democracy, i just believe that more independent artists will start to take care of themselves and due to the increase in communication over the internet we will get access to them via networks of 'peer' listening.
at least, that's what i hope.
