They had it right with the bikes. But they seem to be going backwards now.
I think the Chinese are trying way too hard to be American. They don't know (or choose to ignore) that Americans' car obsession has ended up a disaster... resulting in obese citizens, polluted air, wasted time, and a massive dependency on oil. I feel disgusted at how awful this single, individualistic form of transportation is such a detriment to the development of a society.
What's their population now? Everybody there wants a car. They'd need 20-lane highways to fit all of those vehicles.
