IMO, it doesn't matter.
Sure, in some ways its surprising that it takes so much effort to get Flash to work on a phone. But it can't be impossible, can it? Sites that have issues can go back and reoptimize existing Flash content. Adobe can continue to improve the performance of the plugin itself.
At the same time, I've been saying for a while that I think Flash is on the way out anyway. Not right now, or next year, but a few years from now. And that will happen regardless of its performance on a single mobile platform. It will happen because a truly open source, non-proprietary video and animation platform is preferable to one that is controlled by a single company.
