And you're blind if you don't think this is an issue ginned up by conservative groups. It's the same BS they've been pulling since the 60s - bringing up racially charged issues that don't matter a bit in terms of real life impact but serve to divide us and help them win elections. Only now with Muslims as a stand in for black people.
I mean, really, Obama made it an issue? It was already an issue before he commented on it. He actually did an admirable thing by speaking up and defending the people building the center against these xenophobic attacks.
