Well I'd like to see the Greek Orthodox church, St. Nicholas Cathedral get rebuilt first. It's been almost 10 years since it was destroyed by the towers crashing down and NYC has given them grief over the location, the size (approximately the same as this mosque - 24k sq ft.) etc. Port authority officials haven't met with church officials for over a year now.
Inequity sucks. This isn't about freedom of religion. NYC obviously has zoning issues with St. Nicholas, yet none with this construction project. And one thing to take in mind is an overwhelming majority of Americans don't want it there. Not just Republicans or conservatives. Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, you name it are speaking out about the common sense here. Even Harry Reid said recently he thinks it's a bad idea. You can't just parse it down to hey you stupid bigots. That line is old.

- That's why we are a republic and not a direct democracy, sometimes popular opinion is stupidukit
- no argument there. but that doesn't win the argument.zenmasterfoo
- There is no reason argument, just flag waving anger. I mean, I understand it, but it's not helpful.ukit
- And of course the Republicans dive right in and use it as a campaign issue...makes me depressed to live in this countryukit
