i've spent quite a bit of time in thailand over the last 5 yrs. got malaria first time i went and took a long time to get right.
i have an aunt that lives right in the "war zone" in a 5 star apartment complex. she's still there and feels safe enough.
stay away from the massage parlors. stay away from people that look like beautiful women. enjoy the fruit and the fried rice.
also, i'm currently deaf- drs think it's from a parasite infection from spending too much time in the jungle. been 3 months since i've heard anything at all. they're working on treating it, but cant promise that my hearing will return. so, watch out for that.
