    Ultimate irony: the best beach in NJ is just south of Seaside (which is prob. the worst)....Island Beach State Park. Since it's a state park it's not developed...natural untouched sand dunes & pristine. There's a huge concession building in the middle. It has limited parking so you need to get there early. With a kid, you're up at dawn anyway. Well worth it...it's unlike anything else nearby aside from the hamptons...which isn't actually nearby.
