Seriously.... which exact camera doesn't matter much, unless the camera drives you crazy... and/or you're not shooting weddings in a dark church with no flash allowed.... or if you're really, really into video....

Just get something and shoot like crazy, maybe get an incident light meter if you want to think about light differently.... $120 on ebay for a Sekonic L308 or Minolta 3F

Try a bunch of DSLR's and 4/3rds cameras... see which one fits your hand and feels right..... if you're pixel-peeping, check dxomark.com sensor ratings....

Then get one prime lens, and a flash, even a generic old flash so you learn how to use manual flash....

Seriously consider a polarizer filter if you shoot outdoors much, and learn to work with it....

Note that unfortunately, Nikon D5000 doesn't AF with old cheap AF-D lenses....

....maybe a longer lens later... but learning to work with limited gear is oddly liberating....

Then learn how to light with 3 or 4 cheap old sunpak flashes + CTR-301p wireless triggers from ebay....

    • i read "indecent light meter" at firstbigtrick
    • this sounds fun, but seems a lot for a beginner plateMiguex
    • yes.... but the idea is you progress.... spend a year or so and get really good....vaxorcist
