Well, it is becoming more ridiculous .. I'm not really into the werewolf thing either.
The main thing it does have going for it, is that it's well written. I reckon the association with Alan Ball is pretty clear; sharing a major similarity with Six Feet Under, in the sense that the show is character driven.
Each central character has been carefully defined - and remains distinctive. At any one time, as a viewer, I think it's quite easy to understand what each character could (believably) do - and these boundaries are respected by the writers involved. I think a screenplay should always be driven by character motivation, and the writers of this show understand that. It's a rare quality in a lot of TV.
It's also inventive, but because the writers have carefully defined the fictional universe, they're able to get away with quite a lot of the far-fetched stuff.
It might be trash, but I think it's pretty well-woven.
