Yes Led Zep reused music and lyrics but they brought their own sound and basically created electric rock as we know it by messing with old blues songs. In the same way that Cream or the Rolling Stones did.

It's hard to understand now but at that time in the 60s British teenagers were discovering the old blues recordings, they were very very rare and hard to come by, as in only a few people in the country had some of them.

If it wasn't for Clapton et al none of us would even have heard of willie dixon. They started the 60s blues revival.
Yes led zep should have credited their sources more, but to a certain extent it was in the tradition of the blues to pass down songs and reinterpret. Look at the number of times those old songs are performed. I wouldn't even call them 'covers' in blues it's more of an oral tradition, they're part of the repertoire.

Also willie dixon Dixon reached an out-of-court settlement in 1987 over the similarity of Led Zeppelin's 1969 hit "Whole Lotta Love" to his own "You Need Love."

This is hardly revelatory new territory

    • Without these guys the Blues would have vanished and no one would know who Willie Dixon was.comicsans
    • I'm calling BS on that one - plenty of blues players out there, some far better than LZ...
