    cheers for the help dude, both are single usb powered - no separate power cable.
    maybe that is the problem as it is a laptop (which wouldnt be kicking out as much power as a desktop)...you dont know of a diagnostic tool for power monitoring do you?

    i might have to return it and get a non portable external drive.
