for my food stuff, i use my sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and my canon 50mm f1.4 on a crop-frame body - my style is usually similar to product photography in that i take the whole thing, lit with strobes, lots of DOF.
etc.i often wish i could get closer and shave my depth of field, so a canon 85mm f1.8 would really hit the spot for this.
i know that lara kastner, who is an absolutely brilliant food photographer, shoots [or at least used to shoot] with a canon 24-105mm f4L and a canon 100mm f2.8 macro (on full-frame):
